A Little Child Shall Lead

Lilyart.jpg

My sweet 6-year old Grandgirl painted this for me today without telling me. She surprised me with the gift of her painting. Then she proceeded to explain it to me. Lily called it abstract art showing the manger scene with hay and the small purple dot was baby Jesus.
The purple hand is the hand of God over Jesus and the yellow is the moon to guide the Wise Men.

How great is this? How great is God?

Sweet Baby Jesus

One of my favorite scenes from the silly movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, (bet you never thought you would read that on a Christian blog), was at the family meal as they bowed their heads to pray.

It was at this juncture that Ricky Bobby would start by saying, “Dear 8 pound 6 ounce baby Jesus” even as his wife reminded him that baby Jesus becomes a grown man. But, Ricky Bobby liked the baby Jesus best.

I do too.

There is nothing sweeter than a baby and I often tell people that babies smell like heaven. I believe this to be so.

Jesus came to us not as a King, not an Army leader, and not with a vengeance. He came as a baby; innocent, helpless, worshiped and adored only minutes after birth.

God looked down and sent us the ultimate symbol of love. A baby. God’s son. What that baby accomplished in His life is amazing. What He continues to do is beyond words.

Babies give us hope. Babies give us joy. This baby gives us more.

Thank you sweet baby Jesus.

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.

The stars in the sky looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep in the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.

I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle til morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray.

Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,
And take us to heaven, to live with Thee there.

Merry Christmas!

In the corner of my home office is a sweet, skinny white Christmas tree glowing with colorful mini lights. I leave it up year round with lights blazing twenty-four hours a day.

Most people might think this is unusual or even odd, but I love the idea that every day is Christmas for believers.

We are in the post-Easter season and have recently celebrated the resurrection. This is the most momentous and important day for Christians.

But I daily celebrate the arrival of the newborn baby, born in lowly surroundings and witnessed by shepherds and their flock. Such humble beginnings for a King.

I long for His return.

My Christmas tree reminds me to celebrate the life, birth and the arrival of Immanuel. He makes my daily happiness complete and my future is certain. Who wouldn’t want to celebrate that?

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray;
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,
And fit us for Heaven to live with Thee there.
